Gil Bateman was a musician, producer, music executive, and web designer originally from Seattle, WA. Born on October 27, 1942, he passed away on November 1, 2016, in Taos, New Mexico. Bateman recorded as an artist with Jerden Records at Kearney Barton's 5th Avenue recording studio in Seattle, where he also received producing credits for acts such as the Live Five, the Bards, the Sonics, and the Ceptors. His cover of The Beatles' "The Night Before" peaked at number 19 on Salem's KBZY Boss 40 in February 1968, surpassing the actual Beatles' "Hello, Goodbye," which charted at number 23. As his family grew, Bateman transitioned into a business role at Jerden Records, where he managed record promotions for Jerry Dennon's Pacific Northwest label. His efforts contributed to the success of The Kingsmen's "Louie Louie," attracting the attention of Mel Posner and Jac Holzman, who hired him to run Elektra's promotions on the West Coast in 1968. Within a year, he was promoted to oversee the national operation, leading a promotions team that supported artists like The Doors, Judy Collins, Bread, and Carly Simon, helping to elevate the Elektra catalog to national prominence.
