Gil Evans was a Grammy Award-winning Canadian jazz pianist, arranger, composer, and bandleader, born on May 13, 1912, in Toronto, Canada. He passed away on March 20, 1988, in Cuernavaca, Mexico. Evans is widely recognized as one of the greatest orchestrators in jazz, playing a significant role in the development of cool jazz, modal jazz, free jazz, and jazz fusion. He is best known for his acclaimed collaborations with notable artists. With his second wife, he became the parent of two children.
