Gin and The Gents was a 1960s soul group hailing from Greensboro, North Carolina. The group originally formed in 1967 under the name "the African Americans," and they made their debut by performing at a talent show at Gillespie Park School. Shortly after, Virginia Massey, a senior voice major at A&T College, joined the group, prompting a name change to Gin And The Gents. After a year, Massey left the band, leading to another name change to The Versatile Gents. The lineup included Virginia Massey (aka 'Gin'), Nathaniel Herring, Howard "C.C" Stewart, Cecil Young, and Robert Evans Jr.
