Gina Birch (born in 1955 in Nottingham, UK) is an English musician, visual artist, photographer, and filmmaker, best known as a founding member of the feminist punk band The Raincoats. She began her music career in 1977 when she formed the band with fellow Hornsey School of Art student Ana da Silva, inspired by an early performance by The Slits. Despite having no prior experience with instruments, they quickly took to the stage in the burgeoning punk rock scene. The Raincoats garnered a dedicated following and recorded three influential albums for Rough Trade, often cited as essential records of the punk era. The band initially disbanded in 1984 but reunited in 1994 after Kurt Cobain expressed interest in having them tour with Nirvana, although that tour did not materialize. Their music saw a resurgence, leading to reissues with liner notes by Cobain and Kim Gordon, and a fourth album released in 1996. The Raincoats continue to perform at special events and manage their back catalog through their own label, We Three Records. In addition to her music career, Gina is a respected painter and filmmaker, having directed music videos for bands like The Libertines and New Order. She is also a mother of two daughters and has fronted the band Dorothy and The Hangovers. In September 2021, Gina released her first solo single, "Feminist Song," on Third Man Records, coinciding with the opening of their London
