Gina X is a German electro pioneer who formed in Cologne in 1978. The project was led by art history student Gina Kikoine, who drew inspiration from influential figures such as Lou Reed and Patti Smith, as well as the art avant-garde. The concept of Gina X Performance emerged when Kikoine met Zeus B. Held, who was transitioning from rock to a more electronic sound. Their single "No G.D.M" and debut album "Nice Mover" quickly gained cult status and set a blueprint for 80s electronic dance music. Kikoine described their collaboration as "the absolute union of music, poetry and travesty." Despite producing only four albums, Gina X's influence can still be heard in contemporary artists like Ladytron and Miss Kittin and the Hacker. Kikoine currently resides in Germany, where she is active in the art scene as a writer and organizer.
