Giovanni Battista Pergolesi was an Italian Baroque violin player, organist, and composer, born on January 4, 1710, in Jesi (Ancona), Italy. He passed away on March 16 or 17, 1736, in Pozzuoli (Napoli), Italy. Pergolesi is known for composing serious and comic operas, interludes, oratories, cantatas, sacred music, and instrumental music. His most famous works, "La serva padrona" and "Stabat Mater," secured his enduring fame. "La serva padrona" is regarded as a masterpiece of comic theater and served as a model for the genre, influencing later composers such as Mozart and Rossini.
