Giovanni Vicari was a virtuoso of the mandolin, banjo, and guitar, known for his exceptional talent as a child prodigy on the violin in Sicily. He immigrated to the United States in 1925, where he primarily recorded mazurkas, tangos, and folk melodies from Naples and Sicily. In addition to these genres, he also recorded Vivaldi concertos during a session in 1958. In the 1940s, Vicari had a parallel career recording Latin American music under the name “Juan Vicari y su Genial Orquesta.” He was also part of the live music band in the iconic movie "The Godfather" in 1972. Vicari was not only a performer but also a teacher of mandolin, with one of his students being a filmmaker and 78 collector. He was born on May 19, 1905, in Catania, Sicily, Italy, and passed away on October 15, 1985, in Hempstead, NY.
