The Girlfriends were a vocal soul trio active in the early 1960s and were an offshoot of the renowned Los Angeles session vocal group the Blossoms. The group consisted of singers Gloria Jones (née Goodson), Nanette Jackson, and Carolyn Willis, who had previously been part of Richard Berry's backing group, the Dreamers. In 1957, the foursome formed the Blossoms, achieving a hit in 1961 with "Son-in-Law" and gaining recognition as one of the top session units of the time. When producer Phil Spector recruited members James and Wright for his group Bob B. Soxx and the Blue Jeans, Jones and Jackson teamed up with Willis to create the Girlfriends. Their only single, "My One and Only Jimmy Boy," produced by David Gates and released by Colpix, is noted as one of the best Spector homages of the era, although it failed to reach the Top 50 in late 1963. Despite rumors of a follow-up titled "I Don't Believe in You," no additional releases occurred. In 1969, Willis achieved chart success again as part of the soul trio Honey Cone, and she and Jones later reunited to perform on oldies circuits as part of various groups calling themselves the Shirelles.
