Glenn Gould was a renowned Canadian pianist, born Glenn Herbert Gold on September 25, 1932, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He passed away on October 4, 1982, in his hometown at the age of 50. Gould was particularly celebrated for his recordings of Johann Sebastian Bach's music, showcasing his unique piano technique and eccentric personality. His extensive discography includes most of Bach's keyboard works, all of Mozart's sonatas, all five of Beethoven's piano concertos, and 23 of the 32 piano sonatas. He also recorded the complete piano works and Lieder of Arnold Schoenberg, as well as compositions by Sibelius, Bizet, Richard Strauss, and Paul Hindemith. In addition to his performance career, Gould was a composer, writer, lecturer, and producer of radio documentaries and television programs. He often assumed the identities of fictitious characters, such as Sir Nigel Twitt-Thornwaite, Dr. Herbert von Hochmeister, and Theodore Slutz, among others. Some of his writings were published under the name "Herbert von Hochmeister."
