Gloria “Towanda” Barnes is an obscure soul artist from Harlem, NYC, known primarily for her work in the Northern Soul scene. She was discovered on Mary Fox’s Northern Soul Night on Radio Stoke, UK. Her debut release was ‘If I Am Guilty’ / ‘Oh Darling’ on the Groovy Imprint, where she was credited as Towanda Barnes. She gained recognition for her tracks ‘You Don’t Mean It’ and ‘Love Slips Through My Fingers’, both of which were originally recorded by the Ohio Players. Her album, Uptown, was released in 1971.
