Gnonnas Pedro, born Gnonnan Sossou Pierre Kouassivi on January 10, 1943, in Cotonou, was a renowned composer, singer, and multi-instrumentalist, proficient in guitar, trumpet, and saxophone. He began his musical career at the age of 20 with the prominent Benin band Los Panchos before forming his own group, Les Dadjés. Pedro was celebrated for his unique blend of Cuban-influenced music and Agbadja, a modernized version of Fon folkloric music. His band, Gnonnas Pedro Et Ses Dadjés, earned the reputation of being "the African band that speaks every language," and was as famous as TP Orchestre Poly-Rythmo. Sadly, Gnonnas Pedro passed away on August 12, 2004, at the age of 61 due to prostate cancer in a hospital in Cotonou, Benin.
