Gnonnas Pédro, born Gnonnan Sossou Pierre Kouassivi in Cotonou on January 10, 1943, was a renowned composer, singer, and multi-instrumentalist known for his Cuban-influenced music and Agbadja, a modernized form of Fon folkloric music. He began his career at the age of 20 with the leading Benin band Los Panchos before launching his own band, Les Dadjés. Gnonnas Pédro Et Ses Dadjés gained international recognition and were celebrated as "the African band that speaks every language," comparable in fame to TP Orchestre Poly-Rythmo. He passed away on August 12, 2004, at the age of 61 due to prostate cancer in a hospital in Cotonou, Benin.
