Goblin is an Italian progressive rock band renowned for their film soundtracks. Initially formed as Oliver, they recorded one album before gaining prominence when Dario Argento invited them to score his film Profondo Rosso in 1975. The band enjoyed success during the late 1970s and early 1980s. After a hiatus, they reunited to create the soundtrack for Argento's Non Ho Sonno (Sleepless) in 2000. However, internal disagreements led to various factions and line-ups within the band. On December 16, 2009, Goblin announced their dissolution. In the summer of 2010, New Goblin was formed, featuring members from the original Goblin alongside others from Claudio Simonetti's band. In 2013, Claudio Simonetti left New Goblin to pursue other projects. Goblin's lineup included key members such as (bass), who appeared on all releases, and (keyboards), who contributed to several iconic soundtracks including Profondo Rosso, Suspiria, and Zombi. Other notable members played various instruments, contributing to the band's distinctive sound across multiple albums and film scores. Notably, Tenebre was not released under the Goblin name but rather as a collaboration by Simonetti, Morante, and Pignatelli.
