Golden Earring is a long-standing Dutch rock band that was founded in 1961 under the name 'The Tornados.' They changed their name to 'The Golden Earrings' in 1963 and later shortened it to 'Golden Earring' in 1969. The band is affectionately known among fans as 'The Earring.' Their debut single, 'Please Go,' was released in September 1965. On February 5, 2021, they announced to the Dutch press that their active career had come to an end due to George Kooymans' illness. The current members of the band include a vocalist who also plays guitar and flute, guitarists who provide vocals, a drummer who plays percussion, and a bassist who also plays synth and keyboards. The band has had several previous members, including a lead vocalist, Hans van Herwerden on guitar, and various drummers and guitarists throughout their history.
