Goldie & The Gingerbreads was formed in 1962 by Ginger Bianco, Margo Lewis, and Goldie Zelkowitz. After touring with Chubby Checker in 1962, they added guitarist/singer Carol MacDonald to the lineup. The band made history as the first all-female group to sign with a major label, initially signing with Decca in 1963 and later with Atlantic in 1964. Their single, "Can't You Hear My Heartbeat," reached #25 in the UK. Over the course of their career, they recorded seven additional singles before disbanding in 1967. Goldie Zelkowitz later became known as Genya Ravan and performed with Ten Wheel Drive, in addition to releasing several solo albums.
