Gordon Giltrap, MBE, born on April 6, 1948, in Brenchley, Kent, and raised in Deptford, South East London, is an English guitarist, composer, and occasional vocalist. His music spans various genres, including jazz and progressive rock, earning him recognition as "one of the most revered guitarists of his generation." He has received praise from fellow musicians, although his lyrics have been described as "naive," leading him to refrain from singing for many years during the 1970s, resulting in a focus on instrumental albums. His most famous piece, "Heartsong," released in late 1977 and featured on his classic album "Perilous Journey," became an instrumental hit in early 1978. Giltrap cites fellow UK guitarists among his influences. As of January 2024, at the age of 75, he continues to record and perform at clubs, following personal losses, including the death of his son in 2018 and his second wife in 2022.
