Gordon Henderson is a prominent Dominican musician, singer, songwriter, and bandleader. In the 1960s, he began his musical journey performing in talent shows with soul and R&B songs and initially gained recognition as an early calypsonian under the name "Mighty Bee." In the 1970s, he formed the band "Voltage 4," achieving success touring Martinique and Guadeloupe. He later became the lead singer of Exile One, where he wrote and recorded the hit song "Love," which gained popularity across the Caribbean, particularly in Suriname and the Netherlands. Henderson is best known for founding Exile One in the 1970s, where he developed the style known as "cadence-lypso," a blend of calypso and creole music that significantly influenced the French Caribbean music scene. He is recognized as a pioneer of modern Caribbean music, with his cadence-lypso style laying the groundwork for the emergence of zouk and soca. In the 1980s, he played a crucial role in establishing Tropic FM in Paris, a radio station aimed at the Caribbean Diaspora, and he was instrumental in creating the annual World Creole Music Festival in Dominica. His song "Jamais Voir Ça" achieved remarkable success, selling over 2.5 million copies in a Brazilian version titled "Quero Voce."
