Goro Yamaguchi was a renowned Japanese shakuhachi player and composer, born on February 26, 1933, in Tokyo. He served as the head of the Chikumeisha shakuhachi guild and was appointed Artist in Residence at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Connecticut, during 1967-68. In recognition of his significant contributions to Japanese music, the Japanese government designated Yamaguchi a Living National Treasure in 1992. He passed away on January 3, 1999.
