Govi is a Hawaiian-German guitarist, musician, and composer known for his New Age and Ambient music. Born in Germany on February 27, 1949, he began his musical journey in his teens as the lead guitarist in various German bands, including Blackbird in 1962 and a band in 1971 that featured members of Uriah Heep, performing a range of styles from rock to blues. In pursuit of new experiences, he sold his Gibson Les Paul to fund a flight to India, where he lived for eight years. During this time, he adopted the name Govinda, later changing it to Govi, and immersed himself in playing a variety of instruments including the mandolin, mandocello, sitar, bouzouki, charango, and the 8-string ukulele.
