Gov Mattic, also known as Tha Governer, was an influential figure in the hip-hop scene, particularly in Newark, New Jersey. He began his career as a member of the local hip-hop collective Revolutionary Party of Terrace, which formed in the late 1980s and included several notable up-and-coming rappers. In the 1990s, he partnered with another local artist to create a duo, releasing two albums: one in 1995 and "Hell Up In Newark" in 1998. Over the decades, Gov Mattic worked with a variety of impressive clients, contributing to classic recordings by artists such as Redman & Methodman, L.O.T.U.G., The Outsidaz, Craig Mack, Yuk Mouth, Ice Cube, Busta Rhymes, Leela James, Runt Dawg, Brick Mob, and Diezzle Don & Tha Govenor. Tragically, Gov Mattic passed away on September 14, 2016.
