He is well-known for fronting a pioneering rap group that, on March 12, 2007, became the first rap group ever inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Melle Mel was the first rapper to call himself an MC and served as the de facto lead rapper and songwriter for the legendary track "The Message." This song became Glover's biggest hit, achieving platinum status in less than a month.
