Gravenhurst, the musical project of Nick Talbot, emerged in the late '90s when he moved to Bristol, inspired by innovative sounds from artists like Third Eye Foundation and Flying Saucer Attack. Initially part of Assembly Communications, a band reminiscent of My Bloody Valentine, Talbot felt the pressures of a swift rise in the music industry and chose to pursue a DIY approach by founding Silent Age Records. His debut album, ‘Internal Travels’, showcased his unique sound and paved the way for the early works of West Country artists like Mole Harness and War Against Sleep. Talbot also collaborated with Guy Bartell to create the experimental-electronica group Bronnt Industries Kapital. In 2003, he released ‘Flashlight Seasons’ on Silent Age, which was recognized as a more complex work featuring drone-heavy arrangements and was awarded ‘Album of the Year’ by Venue magazine. In 2004, Gravenhurst signed with Warp Records and evolved into a three-piece ensemble, including Paul Nash on vocals, guitars, and electronic devices, and Dave Collingwood on drums. Tragically, Nick Talbot passed away at the age of 37 on December 2nd, 2014.
