Green River was formed in Seattle in 1984, taking their name from a notorious local serial killer. The band's lineup included lead vocalist and guitarist Mark Arm, guitarist Steve Turner, drummer Matt Cameron, and bassist Jeff Ament. Arm and Turner had previously played together in local hardcore bands, while Cameron came from Spluii Numa and Ament from another band. Later that year, second guitarist Turner’s former bandmate in the Ducky Boys joined, allowing Arm to focus solely on singing. Turner left the band after the release of "Come On Down" and was replaced by another guitarist. Green River is notable for spawning other influential bands. Mark Arm and Steve Turner went on to form Mudhoney, while Bruce, Stone, and Jeff joined Pearl Jam. Following the death of Mother Love Bone's lead singer Andrew Wood, Stone and Jeff formed another band. Green River reunited in 2008 and has since performed at several live shows.
