Greyship Daviz was a funk rock and disco band that gained prominence in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Originally formed in the mid-70s as a rock band, they evolved into a disco/funk group, drawing inspiration from influential artists such as Mother's Finest, Funkadelic, and Earth, Wind & Fire. By 1977, they had fully embraced a funk-rock style. The band's name has its roots in their first singer, Davis, when they were initially called Greyship & Davis. After Davis's departure, they changed their name to Greyship Davis and eventually to Greyship Daviz, with "Daviz" becoming a common suffix for the stage names of the members. The lineup included Keith Alexander (Kid Daviz) on guitar, Kevin Coleman (Cap Daviz) on guitar and vocals, Timmy Houpe (The Muscle) on drums, John Stevenson (Johnny Daviz) on bass, Jay White (Jay Daviz) on rhythm guitar and vocals, Billy Gooch (Billy Daviz) as lead vocalist and percussionist, Cornel Scott (Cornell Daviz) on keyboards and synthesizers, Linus Harriston (Linus Daviz) on Hammond B-3 and vocals, Rico Fillmore (Rico Daviz) on percussion, and Robert Rodgers (Bobby Speed) on keyboards and synthesizers.
