G. Rina is a singer/songwriter from Japan, known for her unique blend of electronic and acoustic sounds, incorporating elements of pop, jazz, Brazilian, reggae, and hip-hop. Born and raised in Japan, she is a quarter English and uses the letter "G" from her full English family name, placing it before her given name in accordance with Japanese custom. G. Rina describes herself as a "singer/song-track maker," and she deejays regularly, often performing while accompanying herself on turntable or personal computer, although she also plays guitar and piano. She began her deejaying career in clubs in 1996 and released her first commercial single in 2001 on the indie label Angel's Egg, which garnered significant radio airplay. G. Rina's first album, "A Girl From A Circus," was released in 2003 and was well-received, leading to a remixed version featuring various artists. Her second album, "Hyoryu Jyozu (Good At Drifting)," was released in January 2005, followed by the EP "Miyako No Gypsy (A Gypsy in Tokyo)" later that year, both of which received critical acclaim. G. Rina continues to perform live across Japan, often in popular music areas such as Shimokitazawa and Shibuya.
