Gruppo di Improvvisazione Nuova Consonanza, also known as The Group or Il Gruppo, was an avant-garde free improvisation collective formed by Italian composer Franco Evangelisti in Rome in 1964. Recognized as the first experimental composers collective, the group drew inspiration from jazz, serialism, and musique concrete, as well as avant-garde techniques developed by contemporary classical composers like Luigi Nono and Giacinto Scelsi. Their dedication to developing new music techniques through improvisation, noise-techniques, and anti-musical systems led to the use of extended techniques on traditional classical instruments, prepared piano, tape music, and electronic music. Throughout the 1970s, their music evolved to incorporate guitar feedback and funk. In addition to performing concerts, the group released a series of albums and contributed to numerous scores by member Ennio Morricone, including "Un Tranquillo Posto Di Campagna" (1968) and "Gli occhi freddi della paura" (1971). The collective gradually disbanded following Evangelisti's death in 1980.
