Guitar Gable, born on August 17, 1937, in Bellevue, Louisiana, was an American Louisiana blues, swamp blues, and swamp pop singer, guitarist, and songwriter. He passed away on January 28, 2017, in Opelousas, Louisiana. Gable, along with his band "The Musical Kings," became the preferred studio ensemble for a record label during the mid to late 1950s, backing numerous artists. Under his stage name, he recorded Caribbean-flavored instrumentals like "Congo Mombo," "Guitar Rhumbo," and "Gumbo Mombo," as well as faster rock and roll tracks such as "Cool, Calm, Collected." He gained notable attention for ballads like "Irene," "Life Problem," and the original version of the swamp pop classic "This Should Go On Forever." After parting ways with the label and its artists in the early 1960s, Gable continued to release music, served in the military, and performed in local clubs until his retirement in the 1980s. His son is also a musician.
