Gylan Kain, born Frank Gillen Oates on May 26, 1942, in Harlem, U.S.A., was an African American poet and playwright. He was a founding member of the Original Last Poets in 1968, alongside Felipe Luciano and David Nelson. Kain engaged in multimedia collaborations with percussionists and has been associated with the Dutch jazz/hip-hop/fusion group Electric Barbarian since 2003, contributing to their 2004 album él. He passed away on February 7, 2024, in Lelystad, the Netherlands.
