Hako Yamasaki is a Japanese folk singer-songwriter, guitarist, and actress, born on May 18, 1957, in Hita City, Oita Prefecture. She is recognized as a pioneer of the folk-boom in 1970s Japan, with an extensive discography that includes 35 albums released from 1975 to 2024. After the folk-boom declined in the 1980s, Yamasaki faced significant challenges, including near homelessness due to disappointing album sales. In 1985, she transferred to a new label and released four albums before entering a 3½ year hiatus. She made her comeback with the album SA・SU・GA in 1990.
