Halim Abdul Messieh El-Dabh (March 4, 1921 – September 2, 2017) was an Egyptian-born American composer, performer, ethnomusicologist, and educator. Born in Cairo, he is recognized as an early pioneer of electronic and electro-acoustic music. In 1944, he composed what is likely one of the first "tape music" pieces, titled The Expression of Zaar, using a wire recorder. El-Dabh moved to the United States in 1950.
