Halim Abdul Messieh El-Dabh (March 4, 1921 – September 2, 2017) was an Egyptian-born American composer, performer, ethnomusicologist, and educator. Born in Cairo, he is recognized as an early pioneer of electronic and electro-acoustic music. Notably, he composed "The Expression of Zaar" in 1944, which is considered one of the first pieces of tape music created on a wire recorder. El-Dabh moved to the United States in 1950, where he continued his work in music and education.
