Hank Jones was an American jazz pianist, leader, and composer, born on July 31, 1918, in Vicksburg, Mississippi. He passed away on May 16, 2010, in Manhattan, New York. Over his illustrious career, he recorded more than sixty albums under his own name and contributed to countless others as a sideman. Jones was part of a highly sought-after rhythm section in New York City for many years, performing at hundreds (if not thousands) of diverse gigs. He received prestigious accolades, including the NEA Jazz Masters Award, the ASCAP Jazz Living Legend Award, and the National Medal of Arts. He was also the brother of a trumpeter and a drummer.
