Hans Zimmer is a German composer and record producer, born on September 12, 1957, in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. He began his musical career playing keyboards and synthesizers with various bands and was also a member of an electro-wave band. In the 1980s, he collaborated with film composer Stanley Myers, but his breakthrough came with the score for the film "Rain Man" (1988), which earned him an Academy Award nomination. Zimmer won an Academy Award for Best Original Score for the animated film "The Lion King" (1995). He has composed music for numerous major blockbusters and created the theme for the boxing series "The Contender" (2005), as well as produced soundtracks for the anime series "Blood+" (2005). He resides and works in Santa Monica, California, where his studio, Remote Control Productions (formerly known as Media Ventures), is located. The studio is home to several accomplished producers, and many later composers have worked under his guidance.
