Eddie Palmieri is a renowned leader and socially conscious artist known for co-leading the revolutionary group Harlem River Drive with his brother Charlie. The band, named after a highway that cuts through Harlem, symbolizes the inequalities of modern society, as it allows affluent individuals to bypass the harsh realities of the neighborhood. Palmieri aimed to unify the community through a unique blend of Latin, soul, and free jazz. Harlem River Drive featured members of Aretha Franklin’s band and prominent Latin musicians and jazz soloists, including Ronnie Cuber, Barry Rogers, Bernard Purdie, and Victor Venegas.
