Harold Budd was born on May 24, 1936, in Los Angeles, California, and passed away on December 8, 2020, in Arcadia, California, due to complications from COVID-19. He had a prolific career with over 30 solo recordings and collaborations, ranging from solo piano pieces to intricately orchestrated compositions. His passion for jazz, which included a brief stint playing drums with saxophonist Albert Ayler during his time in the Army, led him to pursue a degree in music composition. In 1978, he released his second album, The Pavilion of Dreams, inspired by John Coltrane, on Brian Eno's Obscure label. Budd remained musically active until late in his life.
