Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes were an American R&B, soul, funk, and disco vocal quintet hailing from Philadelphia, PA. Originally formed in the mid-1950s, they adopted the name "Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes" in the mid-1960s. The group became one of the most popular soul acts of the Philly soul scene in the 1970s, despite undergoing several line-up changes throughout their career. In the mid-1970s, they split, and another group revived the original band name, which had previously been the backing band behind the ex-drummer and new lead singer.
