Haruomi Hosono (細野 晴臣), born on July 9, 1947, is a renowned Japanese musician, singer, songwriter, and record producer. Often credited as Harry Hosono, he is recognized as one of the most influential figures in Japanese pop music history, having significantly shaped the sound of Japanese pop over the decades and impacting international pop music outside of Japan. He is also known for inspiring genres such as city pop and Shibuya-kei. As a co-founder and leader of several influential bands, Hosono played a pivotal role in pioneering the electro genre, which later influenced the development of techno and acid house. He began his career with a psychedelic rock band and gained national and international recognition as a founding member of various influential groups. In addition to his band work, Hosono has released numerous solo albums that explore a wide range of styles, including film soundtracks and electronic ambient music. He has also produced music for various artists, including Sheena and the Roketts. In 2003, HMV Japan ranked him number 44 on their list of the top 100 Japanese pop acts of all time.
