Harrison was a British rock guitarist, singer-songwriter, and film producer, born on February 25, 1943, in Liverpool, England, and died on November 29, 2001, in Los Angeles, California. He is best known as the lead guitarist of The Beatles. By the mid-1960s, he had developed an admiration for Indian culture and mysticism, which he introduced to the other Beatles. In 1968, he traveled with them to Rishikesh, India, to study meditation. He embraced the Hare Krishna tradition, particularly japa-yoga chanting, and became a lifelong devotee. Harrison was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004 as a performer and was previously honored as a member of The Beatles in 1988. In June 1965, he and the other Beatles were appointed Members of the Order of the British Empire (MBE), receiving their insignia from the Queen at Buckingham Palace on October 26. He was posthumously honored with the 2,382nd star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on April 14, 2009. Harrison was married to his first wife from January 21, 1966, until 1977, and to his second wife from September 2, 1978, until his death.
