Harry James was an American jazz trumpeter born on March 15, 1916, in Albany, Georgia. He gained fame primarily through his performances with a band before establishing himself as a bandleader at the age of 23. James played his last show just nine days before his death on July 5, 1983, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
