Harry Roesli was an Indonesian singer-songwriter and band leader, born on September 10, 1951, in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. He passed away on December 11, 2004, in Jakarta. In the early 1970s, Roesli formed The Gang of Harry Rusli, initially playing rock and blues before transitioning to acoustic music and creating a protest album inspired by Bob Dylan. He released his debut solo album, "Philosophy Gang," in 1973. Although he aspired to be a writer like his grandfather and wrote numerous poems, his work remained unpublished. After his time with The Gang of Harry Rusli, he attended the Jakarta Art Educational Institute and later studied at the Rotterdam Conservatory in the Netherlands on a scholarship, graduating in 1981. Upon returning to Indonesia, Roesli embarked on an avant-garde project that blended the sounds of Iannis Xenakis, John Cage, and Karlheinz Stockhausen with poetry by Yudhistira Ardi Noegraha.
