Harue Momoyama was a Japanese singer and shamisen player, born in 1939 in Tokyo. She passed away on December 5, 2008, in Nisshin-shi, Aichi-ken. Throughout her career, she studied various aspects of Japanese music history, including miyazono-bushi, Silk Road instrumental legacies, Ainu music, 12th-century popular songs, and nursery rhymes. In 1960, she founded her own school of shamisen music, known as the Momoyama-ryu. Momoyama collaborated with notable theatre figures, including Peter Brook and the butoh dancer Kazuo Ohno.
