Haruomi Hosono (細野 晴臣), born on July 9, 1947, is a renowned Japanese musician, singer, songwriter, and record producer, often credited as Harry Hosono. He is considered one of the most influential figures in Japanese pop music history, having significantly shaped its sound for decades and impacting international pop music beyond Japan. Hosono is recognized for inspiring genres such as city pop and Shibuya-kei. As a co-founder and leader of various influential bands, he played a pivotal role in pioneering the electro genre and influencing the development of techno and acid house. The grandson of Titanic survivor Masabumi Hosono, Haruomi began his career with a psychedelic rock band before gaining national and international recognition as a founding member of notable bands. He has released numerous solo albums that explore a variety of styles, including film soundtracks and electronic ambient music. In addition to his own recordings, Hosono has produced work for several artists. In 2003, he was ranked number 44 on HMV Japan's list of the top 100 Japanese pop acts of all time.
