Hasna El Becharia (Arabic: حسناء البشارية), born on June 28, 1950, in Béchar, Algeria, was a renowned Algerian singer and multi-instrumentalist known for her dedication to the music of her homeland. Throughout her career, she focused on performing for her own community, refusing to share her music beyond her “natural” borders and hesitating to record her work for fear of distorting the rich traditions of her culture. Ultimately, she recorded her compositions in three studio albums. Hasna passed away at her home on May 1, 2024. In 2022, she was the subject of a multi-award-winning documentary titled “La Rockeuse Du Désert,” directed by Sara Nacer.
