Headie One is a UK drill artist known for his unique moniker, which comes from a childhood nickname reflecting the resemblance of his head to a 50p coin. He grew up on the Broadwater Farm housing estate in Tottenham, North London, and has Ghanaian roots. In his youth, he played football for the local team Haringey Borough F.C. and was set to have a trial with Stevenage F.C. before an ankle fracture ended his football aspirations. He began rapping in his early teens and intensified his focus on music following his first release from prison. Headie One started releasing music in the early 2010s under the name Headz.
