Heather Perkins, born in 1957, is a musician and composer based in Portland, Oregon. Her musical journey began in the '80s and early '90s in Eugene, where she became a prominent figure in the local music scene, playing in various bands such as the Saddle Soars, Transister, and Dangerous Household Objects. With a passion for progressive rock, she learned guitar and synthesizers, eventually earning a degree in communications from Evergreen State College. After college, Perkins spent a year in the Oregon desert before immersing herself in Eugene's vibrant music community while working in restaurants and bars. She recorded her first cassettes in 1987 and released several albums on her own label, Land-o-Newts, drawing inspiration from artists like Vangelis, Kate Bush, and Pink Floyd. In 1996, she earned a master's degree in electronic music from Mills College and initially planned to teach but instead found work at a San Francisco dotcom, creating music for animated greeting cards. This led to a successful freelance career in music and sound for animations, games, theater, and dance. Perkins has released a compilation titled “Living Room - 1987-1992” and continues to create music, including recent projects like “TAPE,” a collaboration with Ole Peterson, and her solo album “I Woke From A Dream.” She is currently working on an EP entitled “Human Satellite” and produces a monthly radio show “You Are Here” on K
