Heavy D was a Jamaican-born American rapper, record producer, singer, and actor, born on May 24, 1967, in Mandeville, Jamaica. He passed away on November 8, 2011, in Los Angeles, California. Raised in Mount Vernon, New York, Heavy D began experimenting with rap and rhyme at the age of eight. In high school, he collaborated with a friend, DJ Eddie F, to write songs. Heavy D, along with Eddie, G-Wiz, and Trouble T-Roy, signed to Uptown Records in 1986 and released their debut album, 'Livin' Large,' the following year. His second album, 'Big Tyme,' was released in 1989 and featured the platinum hit "We Got Our Own Thang." After the tragic death of Trouble T-Roy in an accident the following year, Heavy D released 'Peaceful Journey' in 1992 as a tribute to his friend, which included the gold hit "Now That We Found Love." He later took on a management role at Uptown Records before the company folded and also pursued an acting career.
