Heavy D, born on May 24, 1967, in Mandeville, Jamaica, was a Jamaican-born American rapper, record producer, singer, and actor. He was raised in Mount Vernon, New York, where he began experimenting with rap and rhyme at the age of eight. In high school, he collaborated with a friend, DJ Eddie F, to write songs. Heavy D and his group, which included Eddie, G-Wiz, and Trouble T-Roy, signed with Uptown Records in 1986 and released their debut album, 'Livin' Large,' the following year. In 1989, they released 'Big Tyme,' which produced the platinum hit "We Got Our Own Thang." The following year, tragedy struck when Trouble T-Roy was killed in an accident, prompting Heavy D to release 'Peaceful Journey' in 1992 as a tribute to his friend. The single "Now That We Found Love" achieved gold status that same year. Later, Heavy D joined the Uptown Records team, managing the company until it folded, and he also pursued an acting career. He passed away on November 8, 2011, in Los Angeles, California.
