Heitor Villa-Lobos was a Brazilian composer, conductor, cellist, and classical guitarist, born on March 5, 1887, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He passed away on November 17, 1959, at the age of 72, also in Rio de Janeiro. Villa-Lobos is regarded as "the single most significant creative figure in 20th-century Brazilian art music." He composed numerous orchestral, chamber, instrumental, and vocal works, making him one of the best-known South American composers of all time. Early in his life, he learned to play the cello, clarinet, and classical guitar.
