Roberto Carlos Lange, known by his stage name Helado Negro, is an American musician born in 1980 and hailing from South Florida. As the child of Ecuadorian immigrants, his upbringing heavily influences his songwriting, which features bilingual lyrics in English and Spanish. Since debuting in 2009 with the album Awe Owe, Lange has released multiple albums and projects under various aliases, showcasing an unconventional approach to songwriting that blends adventurous musical impulses with pop sensibilities. In 2019, he was recognized as a United States Artists Fellow in Music and received a Grants to Artists award from the Foundation for Contemporary Arts. That same year, he released his album This Is How You Smile through RVNG Intl., which received an 8.5 rating and was named Best New Music by Pitchfork. Helado Negro is currently based in Brooklyn.
