Henri-Pierre Noel was a versatile musician known for his unique piano technique, which employed a percussive and syncopated style reminiscent of drumming. This approach infused his music with elements of disco and afro-funk, creating a distinctive dance floor fusion. Originally from Haïti, he moved to Canada, bringing with him the tropical influences of his homeland. His two albums from the late 1970s, "Piano" and "One More Step," showcase the “Kompa Funk” sounds of Haïti alongside contemporary North American jazz and disco. Released on limited private presses, these albums have since become sought-after treasures in the music scene. In later years, Noel gained recognition when his early works were rediscovered by a Montreal-based DJ. This renewed interest led to his albums being re-mastered and re-released in 2012 and 2014 on a UK-based label, with the support of Canadian DJs who were fans of his music. Until his passing on June 20, 2018, Henri-Pierre Noel continued to perform in Montreal. His music has received praise from notable figures, including Craig Charles and Huey Morgan, who highlighted its dance floor appeal and fusion qualities.
